December 6, 2013

Today in Human Geo, we took a 15 question test. Before the test, we did a review of everything. It really did help me. After we all finished the test, we stayed quiet because Mr. Schick promised us that if we stayed quiet after it, he would go get our tests corrected and we would get our scores. He came back with our tests after getting them corrected and let us see our scores but didn't give us them back. I don't know what we did during the rest of the class because I updated this during the class, so.. yeah.

December 4, 2013

Today in human geo, we kinda kept it on the easy side. We went over some questions that are going to be on the test on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2013!!! We also went over the PowerPoint that he made for an extra review for the test. Before all of this, Charlotte, a junior, walked in the room and asked if she could lead prayer for the class, like she does on a regular occasion. When she left, we got back to everything that we were doing in review for the test. Jordan had then told Mr. Schick that she had made a PowerPoint and that she would like to show him so it could be shared with the class. She shared it with the class and Mr. Schick and I were laughing the whole time at the way all the words and new slides would fly in after the last slide. It was a normal Wednesday class, but everyone seemed tired and kinda sad. By the end of class, Mr. Schick told us that we could leave 'early'.. but there was only one minute left in the class.

December 2nd, 2013

Today in Human Geo, we went over our Google docx. that we made last week. We were actually half asleep, so when we were reading everything, we were reading very slow and it was kind of hard to hear. I almost fell asleep in class. As we were going over the slides, Mr. Maynard walked in with Nick's shadow (who I don't remember the name of), but I do know that he likes snakes. We finished going over out powerpoint, and Mr. Schick showed us the other class's powerpoint. Theirs was very good, but I still believe that ours was better. Our powerpoint had color and there's was just grey, black, and white. BORING. Other than this, we were all like we usually are on a Monday morning Human Geo class - unresponsive, quiet, and tired.

November 26, 2013

Today in human geography, Charlotte, a junior, came and got me and we had to go take care of an emergency that had happened earlier. Therefore, I was not in class for human geography today.

November 25, 2013

This morning, human geo started with the regular chaos that happens on Monday mornings. Boring, Slow, Tired, Groggy. We had started a Google Docx and we were honestly fighting over who got to do which slide. Dylan and Laura were bantering back and forth because Laura wanted to put a picture of herself on her slide so she could "stamp" it as her slide. But, Dylan didn't want that. It started small controversy between those two and some others. Everyone else were fighting over slides and who got to do which one and what font color they got to use on their slide. It seemed like I was the only one who wasn't fighting, as I was on the Peace Corps website most of the time trying to find information for my slide. Everyone else was going out of control and it was probably the craziest class we have had all year, but yet it was probably also the most awake we have been during a Monday morning first mod class of human geography.

November 20, 2013

Today in Human Geo, we got with our groups of 3 or 4 people again and continued working on the Peace Corps game thing. I am in a group with Natalie and Laura and they are so sweet and very funny. I was having a lot of fun on the website, but was confused with what we had to do, even after I read the directions. I ended up doing something right, and I won the game. I got the online certificate and celebrated with myself a little bit. I then realized that I had no idea at all what I did, so I did the game over again so I could learn what was going on. Once I redid it, I understood what was going on, and completed it again and got my certificate. After we were done this, Mr. Schick let us do whatever we really wanted to do while staying in our groups. My group took pictures, listened to music, and stayed on our computers for the rest of the class.

November 19, 2013

Today in Human Geo, we get our tests back that we took last week. Before we got them back, Mr. Schick showed us the background picture of his laptop. He said that was his reaction when checking the tests. That kinda made me nervous and I started to think that maybe I didn't do very good. I ended up getting an 80, and I am very happy with my grade! Once he passed out the tests, we started to look over the test and say what the answers were. If we got an answer wrong, we wrote in the correct one so we know what the right one is for future references.

November 13, 2013

Today in Human Geography, we took a test. The test was about different presidents, prime ministers, or leaders and their governments in different countries around the world. I don't know how I did on it, but I do think that I did a lot better than I did on my last test. It wasn't a hard test, but it wasn't easy either, so we will see when I get it back.

During that process, a junior, Charlotte Molali, came in and talked to us for a little bit. She had told us to listen to Mr. Schick because were going to need to know how to do ALL of this for our blogs in the future. We then, after getting the blogs up and running, continued displaying and copying down the slideshow notes we need for the test. Today in Human Geo, we learned some stuff I didn't know before. We learned about States (with a capital "S"). We also learned about Nation-States. These are two out of the 4 things we learned about that I didn't know. But, we were not just learning about this. We were also learning about the interesting stuff that happened over everyone's weekend. But, we did all of this after we re-took our test that not many of us did very good on. I didn't do good the first time, and didn't do so hot the second time either. It didn't make me very happy to know how I did on the test, but the smile I had when I walked into the classroom came back after class, as we were making jokes and learning new things.

November 3, 2013

Friday in Human Geo, we took a test. It was scheduled and it was on Mr. Schick's blog, but I still didn't do very good on it, and apparently a couple others didn't do so good either. So, Mr. Schick decided to give us a second chance. We get to retake the test and whichever we get a better grade on is the one that gets put into powerschool. I am glad he is giving me and others a second chance because I can't afford my grade to drop anymore,

October 30, 2013

Today in class, we continued with our PowerPoint's or documents we made about the religions we were given. I was partnered with Natalie, and our religion is Judaism. Today in class, Nick Rosachi and Dylan Kidd did their presentation on the religion they were given, which was Buddhism. After there presentation and after we copied down the notes we were told to copy down, Scott, Claire, and Hannah presented their PowerPoint on the religion they were assigned, which was Christianity. They presented it, and we copied down the notes from their report that we needed. Mr. Schick told my group that we didn't have enough time to present ours today, but we will have to before our test which Is being held on Friday, November 1st, 2013.

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

October 29th, 2013

I was sick today, so I wasn't in school today. I read Mr. Schick's blog, though, and will be ready for class tomorrow.

Monday, October 28, 2013

October 28, 2013

Today in Human Geo, instead of the longgg Monday morning first mod lecture Mr. Schick usually gives us, we actually interacted with others in our class. We had to look up information on a religion we were given. My group was Judaism. I worked with Natalie, and we made a PowerPoint all about the religion. We did a lot of research, and I KNOW we are going to get a good grade tomorrow for when we present it in front of the class, and inform everyone else.

October 25, 2013 (2 months until Christmas)

I walked into Human Geography today, and was told we had a quiz today. Last night, I did NOT check Mr. Schick's blog, so I didn't know we had a quiz and I instantly got worried. But then he said we were going to have a 10 minute review if we had any questions. We had lots of questions to ask, and it helped me out a b\little bit. I don't think I did as good as I wish I would have on the quiz, but I know I at least got one answer out of the 20 correct.

October 23, 2013

Today in class, we talked about people in prison's and criminals and laws. Mr. Schick told us the story of how he visited a prison with a class one year. He had also told us how he visited his daughter in college and the state that it's it, they only charge you 10$ if you're caught smoking pot. We were having a good time, laughing at points during the class. We were slightly interrupted by 2 senior girls who were interviewing 2 people, a girl and a boy, in our class for their project. We also talked about the many criminals out there and the crimes they commit and how bad they are. And finally, we talked about how the USA is the country with the most people put into prison. I learned a lot today in class.

October 1st, 2013

Today in Human Geography, it was day 2 of watching the documentary, 'God Grew Tired Of Us'. We watched the documentary and laughed a couple times along the way, but were shocked in other times during it. Mr. Schick would stop the video every once in a while so we could take notes on the important information and facts he was about to tell us. We had to write down notes in our composition book so later on we can study this information for the test. I really do enjoy the documentary and am realizing that if one day I think I have a terrible life, I think about the life they have been living all their life. I realize how grateful I am to be living a safe life filled with family, friends, good health, and safety.

September 18, 2013

Today in Human Geo, we had some of our class groups display their slide shows they did together. A couple of the groups went and had very good slides. They were displaying what globalization was, some of the pros of it and some of the cons, and so much more stuff. We were able to write down the things that were being said as notes, if we would like, for the test. After the 3 or 4 groups went, Mr. Schick said we didn't have enough time for anybody else's groups to go, but we would continue with them the next time we meet up. After the slide shows, we went over thing we need to know for the test. Some of the key things we need to know for the test are globalization, A Message to Garcia, ancient Greek terms and definitions, and many more things. We spent the rest of the class going over notes for the test and the structure of the test. The test we were preparing for is on Friday, September 20, 2013.

September 17, 2013

Today in Human Geo we talked about Nike and the outrageous price of certain shoes. We talked about Nike endorsement. We talked about how outrageous the prices were. Someone had mentioned how Nike has a pair of spikes that they bought and they were $350. We talked about how outrageous the prices of shoes these days and how people buy them just because they look nice. It's probably not because of comfort, but maybe those neon green spikes looked awesome, so you NEEDED to buy them. I found that insane because there are people in Indonesia MAKING Nike shoes who can hardly afford a full day of meals.  I had mentioned, after someone mentioned the outrageous price of their spikes that I was wearing the Sperries my sister had worn freshmen year at John Carroll, and they had the bottom of the shoe coming off. The point I was trying to put across was if the shoe is still in a condition where you can walk in them, but maybe you do some mini modifications to them, wear them! They are usually comfortable then buying a new pair of shoes.

Today in Human Geography, we started off by looking at Mr. Schick's nametag picture. Then, we talked some more about McDonalds. We didn't talk much about it, though, so that we could get onto our next topic. Mr. Schick then showed us a picture of a man in Kenya, Africa on his cell phone. We started talking about what is mandatory to have in order to use a cellphone. For instance, you need a cellphone, and you also need electricity, in case it dies, so that you can charge it. We also talked about silk and about thousands of years ago, the Chinese were the only ones who knew how o make silk. Greece was the only place you could get olive related products, such as olive oil. If you didn't live in China or Greece, and you needed silk or some type of olive products, you would order it and it would be delivered on the Silk Road, and it would take a month or longer to get delivered to you. Finally, we talked about religion. We said how if you asked, at least one person in the U.S. would be of each type of religion there is to believe in. Also, Mr. Schick told us that Christianity is the largest religion, but in a couple of years, the Muslim religion will become the most believed religion.

September 10, 2013

Today in Human Geography, we talked about McDonalds. We talked about the many different places around the world where McDonalds have been located. Mr. Schick asked us if anyone has ever been to a McDonalds out of the country and one or two people said yes. We ended up having a couple minutes just talking about what different countries might sell at McDonalds. For example, McDonalds in Paris, France sell beer and McDonalds in Tokyo, Japan probably sell sushi. We ended up getting off topic and talking about random stories and incidents we had had a McDonalds in the past. We also were talking about the how unhealthy their food is, but yet how they are trying to make their food more healthy. For example, they are adding salads, apple slices, and juice and milk to their menu as time goes on. We also talked about how people over the years there has been a documentary about a man and his McDonalds experience called Supersize Me.

Today in Human Geography, we learned how to set up our Google Document. Mr. Schick told us we were going to split up into groups of three. We split up into groups. I was in a group with Alyssa and Angela. Angela set up the document on her computer. Mr. Schick then gave us a couple minutes to just play around and have fun on Google Documents and find out how it works. Angela, Alyssa, and I were having a lot of fun typing on it!  We then had to come up with test questions that we typed and answered on the document. Angela had to invite Alyssa and I to be able to type on the document, but she also invited Mr. Schick. So, in the middle of typing our questions, Mr. Schick had joined in and we were all just laughing because he didn’t tell us he was going to type a question! Another thing we did in class, at the beginning of class, was sing Happy Birthday to John because it is his birthday. Mr. Schick gave him the birthday hat and he wore it during the whole class!

September 3, 2013

Today in Human Geography, we started off with getting our seating arrangement correct. We then went on and talked about some things. One of the things we quickly had a two minute discussion about was how to access our PowerSchool and see our grade for Human Geography. We then had a certain student in the class help us out if we couldn’t access it. We then went over what homework we had to do that was due. We had to define certain definitions that had to do with Ancient Greek and Athens. When going over them, the same three people were the ones who answered the whole time. We didn’t finish going over the homework because we had a longer conversation about Socrates then we did the rest of the words we defined, but that took up the rest of our class. Mr. Schick then gave us our homework due tomorrow and we were able to leave.

My Successful Freshman Year in 5 Specific Ways

1.      Get good grades. I need to study hard and finish all my homework and turn it in on time.

2.      Make friends. School is extremely important, but you need friends to make it through the year!

On Friday in Human Geography, Mr. Schick ranted. He ranted on behalf of a man named Elbert Hubbard. Elbert Hubbard wrote the story A Message To Garcia over one-hundred years ago. He ranted about people who aren't very hard workers, but also talked some about people who are and how they much more they are appreciated. Mr. Schick also gave us some notes that we had to write down in our composition books, and we then moved on with everything else. For the rest of our class time, we were talking about what homework assignments we have over the weekend. He gave us our homework assignments, which are due Saturday at Midnight and Tuesday before class starts. Mr. Schick also told us that the link to A Message To Garcia, if we wish to read it, can be found on his Blogger under the section named “Links That Don’t Stink”.

August 28, 2013

Today in Human Geography, we first took attendance so Mr. Schick could try and learn our names. He use dour names or any nicknames that we wanted him to call us. We then talked about the homework that was due. We had to create a gmail account, make our blogger account, and then add our first blog about how our first day at JC went. We then had to send the URL to Mr. Schick through email. Mr. Schick pulled up his blogger and projected it on the screen. He then showed us a list of names and that was the list of names who sent the URL to Mr. Schick’s email correctly, with the right link and to the right email. Toward the end of class, Mr. Schick told everyone whose name wasn’t up there that they had could try to resend the URL and fix what they messed up. I had a good time in our first class with Mr. Schick and I’m looking forward to spend the rest of the year with him.

My First Day At John Carroll

My first day at John Carroll was very nerve wracking. I was worried about everything. When I first got here, I was so nervous that I was actually shaking. As the day went on, I felt a lot of pressure being lifted off my shoulders, but I was still very nervous. Opening my locker was easy, getting my books together was easy, but I felt very lost when trying to find my next classroom. I knew, though, that if I needed to, I could ask one of my fellow classmates for help, or even an upperclassmen if needed. Walking into Human Geography, I was greeted very nicely by our substitute. I felt slightly scared knowing that this was high school, and the classes would be a lot harder than any middle school classes. I did, though, know that I had many other freshmen's that are feeling the same way as I am. The day may have been nerve wracking, but I still had a great time meeting new people, teachers, and being reunited with my other friends.
